The Engineer / Architect / Engineering Technologist role is an intermediate position responsible for the completion of structural engineering design, investigation and management of multiple projects of varying scope and complexity.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Complete structural reviews of existing buildings/structures
  • Complete written condition/evaluation reports
  • Completion of engineering design assignments and management of projects of various scope and complexity
  • Completion of complex engineering design projects
  • Use of a variety of standard engineering methods and techniques to solve problems
  • Office review of structural engineering shop drawings and calculations
  • Field review of structural related construction (e.g. reinforcing steel)
  • Application of design software for structural design
  • Assist in performing condition assessments of multi-residential, commercial, and institutional facilities and preparation of reports and reserve fund studies
  • Perform field investigation work and the diagnosis of building problems required to design exterior envelope remediation including exterior wall, fenestration, roof and/or structural remediation
  • Assist in carrying out field review of construction work in progress on both new and restoration projects and report on progress and the contractors adherence to contract documentation
  • Recommend technological improvements
  • Assist other team members in carrying out technical tasks requiring accuracy in calculations, completeness of data an adherence to prescribed testing analysis, design or computation methods
  • Providing guidance and direction to junior and student engineers or technicians
  • Project management and coordination duties
  • Light AutoCAD support and specification writing
  • Client interfacing, as required
  • Other assigned duties and tasks, as required

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Completion of a degree in an engineering or technology program with a focus on Building Science, Civil and / or Structural Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Project Manager, preferably in a consulting engineering environment managing structural restoration projects
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in Building Science / Building Envelope, particularly with Building Condition Assessments
  • Bilingual in English and French is an asset
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to provide leadership to junior engineers/technicians
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment
  • Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
  • Self-motivating and ability to multi-task while maintaining a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to act with business integrity and professionalism
