The Structural / Building Science Engineer role is an intermediate position responsible for the completion of structural and building science engineering design, investigations and management of multiple projects of varying scope and complexity. Energy modeling and associated building upgrades will also be required. The ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the desire for rapid career advancement to management.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Complete structural reviews of existing buildings/structures
  • Complete building enclosure reviews of existing buildings
  • Manage contractors as required for assistance with investigations
  • Complete written condition/evaluation reports
  • Completion of engineering design assignments and management of projects of various scope and complexity
  • Completion of complex engineering design projects in conjunction with senior Engineers
  • Preparation of specifications
  • Contract administration duties for CCDC2 contracts
  • Review of engineering shop drawings and calculations
  • Field review of construction
  • Application of design and modelling software
  • Use of a variety of standard engineering methods and techniques to solve problems
  • Recommend technological improvements to the department
  • Assist other engineers in carrying out technical tasks requiring accuracy in calculations, completeness of data an adherence to prescribed testing analysis, design or computation methods
  • Providing guidance and direction to junior and student engineers or technicians
  • Client interfacing, as required
  • Project management and coordination duties
  • Other assigned duties and tasks, as required

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering with P.Eng designation – must have held P.Eng. designation for a minimum of 5 years
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a consulting engineering environment managing structural and building enclosure restoration projects
  • Written and verbal English skills must be excellent
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Energy modelling experience considered an asset
  • Hands on construction experience considered an asset
  • Ability to provide leadership to junior engineers/technicians
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment
  • Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
  • Self-motivating and ability to multi-task while maintaining a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to act with business integrity and professionalism
  • Physical ability to carry ladders and work safely from heights
  • Ability to use power tools and equipment for investigation work
  • Flexible work hours are required for evenings and weekends when instructed by management
  • Must have vehicle suitable for carrying ladders and tools
