In 1992, the company, with only 4 employees at the time, was purchased by current president Albert Duwyn. The new team determined that roofing was affected by other building components, so the firm was rebranded as IRC Building Sciences Group.
In order to handle IRC Group’s new, broader service mandate, building envelope specialists were added to the staff. The ability to increase project continuity between engineering disciplines has since become a major competitive advantage.
In 1998 IRC acquired Batten Sears, thereby establishing a presence in 4 major markets across Canada. In 2000 IRC became a ISO 9000 registered company. In 2007, McCavour Engineering was acquired by IRC Building Sciences Group Inc., adding Structural Engineering to their offerings
IRC now provides engineering services in every province in Canada. We have over 500 national customers and manage approximately 110,000,000 ft² of roof inventory across the country.
We are located in Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary, Regina, Windsor, London, Cambridge, Sudbury, Mississauga, Ottawa, Montreal, Halifax, and the Maritimes.
We now employ over 150 people, including 23 professional engineers. IRC can also boast that it employs more Registered Roof Consultants and Registered Roof Observers than any other firm in Canada.
Albert Duwyn is one of the founding members of RCI Canada. He is also the former President of RCI Canada and President of RCI International.
